The economic tangibility of concepts such as timely delivery, flexibility and organization. Luca Galbiati presents a production model for automatic precision turning.
Our company is one of those Lombardy SMEs that has won respect on the market focusing on added value, which usually other companies get to easier because of being a big corporate company. And not just on the national market. “For fifty years”, says Luca Galbiati, president of Galbiati & Colombo in Molteno, who leads the company in a team with Sergio, Paolo and Massimo Galbiati, “we have been in the precision automatic turning industry for manufacturing small parts, made with all types of steel, non-ferrous alloys and plastic materials. And today 50% of our production goes abroad, to industrial companies such as Stanley Black & Decker, StihlGroup, Abb Sace and Bufab Sweden AB”.
But what is this added value? “Apparently they are concepts, such as expertise, timely delivery, flexibility, and organisation. But they have concrete repercussions on what and how it is produced. And the best confirmation of the economic tangibility of this value is our partners’ satisfaction”.
However, Galbiati & Colombo has also applied technology to production. “We have multi-spindle lathes, single spindle, Swiss-type lathes, and CNC. Furthermore, operating as main contractor, in addition to our purely mechanical processes (turning, milling, rolling, tapping, grinding), we also perform all the additional phases (heat treatments, galvanic treatments, assembly). These different technologies allow us to guarantee product lines that meet the needs of several sectors: from electro-mechanics to pneumatics, as well as hydraulics, automotive and general mechanics. The final outlets, then, are the furniture industry, the automotive industry, gardening machines, the electric tool”. A further guarantee of Galbiati & Colombo’s production quality is the ‘Quality System’ certified according to the ISO 9001 standard and the “In process” control. “It is a working methodology that involves several verification phases. The different moments of inspection follow the whole production and, indeed, start the process. Reviewing cycle allows us to develop a continuous control statistic. All processed data is acquired by the system in order to optimise manufacturing processes and avoid future errors in similar productions ยป.
